Salta Argentina

Salta Argentina is an uncommon province in the Andean Northwest region of the country.  Its capital city of the same name has some of the best preserved colonial architecture in Argentina.  Nicknamed the City of Beauty, a glimpse of the attractive buildings set against the backdrop of mountains and blue sky will explain why.

Valle de las Conchas

One of the most popular attractions in the province is the Trena las Nubes or Train To The Clouds.
Traveling from the capital city to La Polvorilla, the 15-hour, 22-mile journey is an engineering masterpiece along the majestic eastern Andes.  Winding and zigzagging through tunnels, bridges and viaducts, you will be traveling over 13,000 feet above sea level.

Southwest of the city lies Los Cardones National Park, instituted in 1996 to preserve the giant candelabra cactus, or cardoon.  These cacti can grow to a height of 20 feet and live to be a ripe old age of 1000 years!

Another interesting attraction is the Quebrada de Cafayete, a barren landscape composed of odd sandstone formations.  Surrounding Cafayete are the wine vineyards of Salta Argentina, where grapes grow and flourish 5000 feet above sea level.

The tropical climate of this region is sunny and pleasant, warm and dry. Summer temperatures average from 60-82 F (16-28 C), while winter averages are 35-69 F (2-21 C).

El Aybal Airport is 5.5 miles south of the capital (airport code "SLA").  Flights and car rental can be easily arranged from Buenos Aires and other Argentinean cities.  You can also find and compare rates on hotel accommodations and package deals to the province.
