The beautiful province of Mendoza Argentina is a feast for the senses. From the snow-capped Andes Mountains bordering Chile to the abundant groves of olive trees and grapevines, there is plenty for the visitor to see and do. The province is the largest of the wine-producing regions in Argentina, where the very popular Malbec grape is harvested, bottled and shipped worldwide. The capital city of the same name is known as the oasis or garden city, and is said to be one of the loveliest cities in Argentina. There are a number of museums to visit, along with a stop at the El Mercado Central, the Central Market, where one can purchase anything from fresh meats and produce to local crafts and artwork, or sit down for a beverage and a snack and some afternoon people-watching! The market has been an attraction for tourists and locals for over 120 years. The city boasts the Parque General San Martin, which has an ornate entrance gate constructed in 1909 with the city's Coat of Arms. The park sits on 865 acres, with over 11 miles of lovely paths. Over 300 different types of plants and trees are maintained here.
One of main attractions in the province of Mendoza is Aconcagua Provincial Park. At 22,841 feet, Mt. Aconcagua is part of the Andes Mountain range and is the highest peak in the Americas.
The park is spread out over 175,000 acres consisting of mountains, valleys and glaciers, 112 miles west of the capital city on the border of Chile.
Las Lenas Ski Resort is a popular attraction for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. For those of us who live in the northern hemisphere, it's a great place for summer skiing!Las Lenas is a self-contained resort with many types of restaurants, bars and nightlife, as well as a casino and billiards hall. There are 27 authorized runs for beginners, intermediate and advanced, as well as slopes for slalom, extreme skiing and heli-skiing.
The weather in the province is arid with little rainfall. Summer temperatures range from 64 - 91 Fahrenheit (18 - 33 Celsius) with hot days
and cool nights. Winters are cold and windy with a range of 37 - 61 Fahrenheit (3 - 16 Celsius).
Mendoza Argentina can be accessed through the Governor Francisco Gabrielli - El Plumerillo International Airport (airport code "MDZ"), located five miles from the capital city center.
