The Argentina National Flag A Symbol Of Independence And Pride
The Argentina National Flag was first raised on February 27, 1812 in the city of Rosario in Santa Fe by General Manuel Belgrano. The leader of the revolution against Spain, General Belgrano designed the concept of the flag. Three wide bands of light blue, white and light blue are offset with a golden sun containing the image of a human face. This is known as the "Sun of May" and was added to the flag six years later in 1818.
There are a couple of theories concerning the blue and white stripes of the Argentina National Flag. It is said that General Belgrano based the colors on the blue uniforms worn by the nationalists when the Spanish viceroy stepped down in Buenos Aires, and in 1806 when British troops invaded Buenos Aires. Some say the the blue represents the sky opening to expose white clouds, just as it did on National Day in Buenos Aires when the protests began. The Sun of May is copied from an engraving on the first Argentine coin.
The sizing of the flag is based on a ratio of 1 to 2, twice as wide as it is tall, and 9 to 14 when flown on land, and a ratio of 2 to 3 when flown at sea. Any citizen of Argentina may fly the flag with or without the Sun of May. The flag with the sun is the official ceremonial flag, and without the sun, the ornamental flag. Both are equal in Argentina National Flag status, however, the ornamental flag must always be hoisted below the official ceremonial flag. On the Parana River in Rosario, a huge monument to Argentina's National Flag, Monumento a la Bandera, was constructed out of stone from the Andes. Opened in 1957 the memorial consists of a large tower and building complex which was designed to resemble a mast and ship. The remains of General Manuel Belgrano lie in a crypt beneath the tower. Flag Day is celebrated on June 20th, the anniversary of General Belgrano's death in 1820.

High in the sky, a warrior eagleAudacious it rises in its triumphal flightBlue a wing of the color of the skyBlue a wing of the color of the seaThus in the high irradial aurora. As the tip of an arrow the golden face imitates. And the purple neck leave a wake. The wing is cloth, the eagle is flag.It is the flag of my home country,Born from the sun that God gave us.It is the flag of my home country,Born from the sun that God gave us.
AURORA
